The current COVID-19 contingency in Tijuana is exceeded in terms of attention capabilities not only in relation to medical services but also in terms of oxygen, medicines, emergency services and also funeral services.

According to a worker at a Tijuana funeral home, the General Hospital has run out of space in its morgue, so there have even been up to 48 bodies accumulated in the refrigerator area.

"In fact, when you go to identify, the family sees the whole mess," he said.

When there is not enough room in the refrigerators, the bodies are piled up on stretchers or in the worst case on the floor.

"There were like 30 bodies, but outside there were between 15 and 18; there were 48, and I took out 47... I asked a stretcher-bearer: 'Hey, why are there so many bodies,' and he answered: 'No, this is only for three days and now I'm going to take down three more bodies,'" he said.

The employee assured that all the funeral personnel do not have Social Security, so they are afraid of catching the disease because of the terrible conditions in which they are treating the bodies.
