On Sunday's afternoon, the Federal Attorney's Office for Environmental Protection (Profepa) attended north of San Felipe, Baja California inside the buffer zone, due to the finding of a dead specimen of the vaquita marina.
It is believed that the specimen was 145 cm in length, possibly a female adult organism in an advanced state of decomposition; however, multiple deep puncture wounds and superficial cuts can still be seen in its body, apparently caused by man.

The corpse will be kept in a refrigeration room in Mexicali to carry out the corresponding analyzes and determine the exact causes of the death.
There are only 29 vaquita specimens left, since a few months ago authorities indicated that there were only 30 left. Even a few days ago, a baby vaquita was found dead and still had the umbilical cord attached to its body.
