What started as an ordinary Sunday visit to Valle de Guadalupe, ended up becoming one of the most memorable experiences in the Baja wine region for me, mostly thanks to Vena Cava, located right next to the Hotel Villa del Valle. This winery, besides having view and cozy facilities, it is mainly known thanks to its exquisite wine and the professional staff treatment.

According to Enrique, our guide in the vineyard, the philosophy of Vena Cava is to produce wines without using pesticides or high quality artificial fertilizers on their high quality vines. The tasting of all wines of Vena Cava has a low cost, which is $200 pesos (or $10.00 dlls) that are worth every penny. With a rich Sauvignon Blanc, a Tempranillo that I will hardly forget, a rich mix of reds and a Cabernet Sauvignon, Vena Cava made my visit worthwhile.

Vena Cava is the result of the work of Phil Gregory, a retired English sailor whose passion for wine led him to settle in Baja California. The result has been impressive, with an exquisite variety of wines and a place with an artificial lake that always remains in the minds of all who visit this cava at Valle de Guadalupe.
