New La Cayetana Restaurant Opens in Tijuana

Paseo Chapultepec has a new member

This week, we had the opportunity of being at the opening of restaurant La Cayetana in Tijuana, located in the upscale Paseo Chapultepec mall. The date was set at 7:00 p.m. and surprisingly on time.

Our host was Ricardo Buenrostro, welcoming and guiding us to our table by saying some brave words, "order whatever you want, I could assure you that no matter what you choose, everything will be delicious."

Challenge accepted. Not an easy task for a restaurant, especially for dinner on a restaurant's opening night, but we decided to trust the young man and opened the menu to start and look at the different options for the night. The first appetizers were interesting dishes, one was thinly sliced callo de hacha (scallop) and the other were some beef tartare crostinis. The mixology had great variety and we ordered some drinks to make everything more pleasant for a while.

Our drinks arrived and they explained to us that they're trying to create a new mixology concept, however, it was very clear that there were still some details to take care of, although the bar is almost a monument and impressive by itself. While I was sipping a drink made with mezcal, I was contemplating the decor inspiration, which looked very similar to the New York bars from the 20s.

People kept arriving and every time I felt worse about what I was wearing. Yes, as the night went on, it was more obvious that the establishment was made with a more formal dress code in mind , although I was less worried when boxing legend, Julio Cesar Chavez himself, arrived very casually dressed.

The next dishes were curry clams, accompanied by a huge plate of french fries. It may seem like a weird combination, but once we tried those clams, our perception changed completely. Is always very thrilling to see a Chef taking risks with food; and the french fries? Those were made to bathe them in curry, so yes, they were delicious.

We ordered a cup of wine for the main course, beef medallions with broccoli and mashed potatoes. The cut tasted exactly as you can see in the photo. According to our host, meats are the specialty of the restaurant and it shows, yet, the seafood dishes are outstanding as well.

The finishing perfect touch was a mil hojas cake with coconut cream, strawberries and blueberries. ON POINT.

Service took more time than expected, but we are planning on going again when the team is a bit more settled. Besides that, everything was excellent and we hope it continues like that. La Cayetana is located inside Paseo Chapultepec ubicada en Blvd. Agua Caliente 10387, Tijuana, B.C.
