The Joker version of Jared Leto is mainly known for his tats, and it doesn't matter if they are well or bad received, what's important here is the meaning of them; so, the Director of Suicide Squad, David Ayer, revealed the truth behind the already famous "damaged" tattoo.
It's all about Batman and Robin. A couple of months ago, Zack Snyder said that Robin was killed by the Joker, approximately 10 years before the events in "Batman V Superman." And now, Ayer confirmed that in fact, this is why Batman took all of Joker's teeth with a PUNCH.
"..Joker killed Robin and Batman basically smashes his teeth out and locks him up in Arkham Asylum", said Ayer to Empire. "It's in the asylum where Joker would have done the 'damaged' tattoo as a message to Batman, saying 'You've damaged me. I was so beautiful before and now you've destroyed my face.' "

Anyway, we may never see this in the screen, because Ayer explained that this is more of a personal matter. On the other hand, if you were doubting if The Joker was actually Jason Todd, you better forget it, for David also denied that possibility.
