Full House at the Launching of Xocoveza Bourbon Barrel Aged in Tijuana

Insurgente Brewery did it again

The responsible brewery for the best craft beer in Mexico, Insurgente, launched on Wednesday the special edition of their Xocoveza, aged in barrels of whiskey. A 21 ounce bottle that caused lines of 20 minutes and more, the visit of San Diegans and tiredness behind the bar.

It was five o'clock in the afternoon, the official hour of the event Insurgente had announced on social networks, but the doors of Insurgente's Tap Room were still closed, and about twenty people were lined up to have the opportunity to get a special beer when it finally happened, the white sheets of metal were lifted. Minutes later the first people settled in the bar and the people kept the length of the line outside the tap room.

After the third customer, the staff didn't even bother to close the cash register. If you wanted to have the bottle in your hands you had to give $15.00 dlls away, the maximum was three bottles per person, but the trick was to arrive in groups to be able to take the beers in boxes or with the bottle in a bag painted with Insurgente's owl.

The Xocoveza Bourbon Barrel Aged stands out at first sight with its silver label, sealed with black wax that slides down the neck of the bottle. Its content has the flavors of classic Xocoveza, chocolate, cinnamon and pasilla chili, but what makes it different is the palate sensation of the barrels of Heaven Hill Bourbon.

In addition to the main attraction of the night were barrels of Xocoveza 2016 and 2017, and also tasters of three beer variations: chipotle, blackberries & maple syrup, and agave.

During Wednesday night boxes continued arriving and the staff never mentioned they didn't have more to offer. However, Insurgente announced Thursday morning that they still have a couple of boxes for this weekend. So if you happen to go to Plaza Fiesta this weekend, make sure to arrive early and make Insurgente's Tap Room your first stop.
