SAN DIEGO. - The cuisine of Baja California will be the star in the latest chapter of the show "No Reservations" with Chef Anthony Bourdain, to be broadcast this Monday May 28 May on the Travel Channel.
Again, the cuisine of this region will be in the in the international eye through a tour spanning seafood from Popotla, the vineyards of Valle de Guadalupe, seafood carts in Ensenada, and food from Baja Med restaurant in Tijuana.
On more than one occasion, Bourdain has highlighted the learning he had when visiting Baja California, a region that in recent years has found in its cuisine, a new attraction that goes hand in hand with its development.
"Tijuana and Ensenada, there are incredible things happening down there right now, they got tired of waiting for the Americans to return and began to make a delicious and creative food," said Bourdain to LA Weekly.
The region wants to leave behind the bad image it afflicted them for years, and aims to show in their culture and gastronomy their true colors, which will be seen through "No Reservations".
"We can only hope that it will continue to show people what they're really missing out by not visiting the South," said Kristin De Sandi, writer of the blog "Life and Food", which specializes in the Baja California cuisine.
"The cuisine itself is changing and never ceases to impress me. Anthony Bourdain could give that boost to those who have not yet experienced the beautiful side of Baja, " he added.
For his part, specialist Bill Esparza, author of the blog "Street Gourmet L.A." and admirer of the food of this region, stressed the importance that more and more international chefs are finding a culinary space in Baja California that is worth promoting.
"This is the fulfillment of a promise made in 2009; this meant that if the true history of the Baja California cuisine was shared in the world, Zimmern, Bayless, Bourdain and other media specialized on food, would come. Mission accomplished, "stated the writer, who for years has believed in the culinary potential of this area
Bourdain joins a list of international chefs that have highlighted Baja's cuisine.
This has being previously made by Andrew Zimmern on Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods" show, Chef Ricky Bayless of the "Mexico One Plate at a Time" show on KPBS, and Achilles Chavez on the "Utilisima" show.
To celebrate this broadcast that will show Baja California on the Travel Channel, an event will be made this Monday at the 'Erizo' restaurant owned by Chef Javier Plascencia in Tijuana, where the program will air live.
The meeting is at 6 pm, on the spot located in Sonora Avenue, north of Agua Caliente Boulevard. There will be craft beer and a menu specially made by Chef Plascencia himself.
Those who prefer can follow the show on The Travel Channel at 9:00 PM.
