Governor Marina del Pilar highlights the importance of women in Mexican society

The governor issued a message in the name of all the women of Mexico and their fight for their rights

Celebrating International Women’s Day, the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar, issued a message where she highlighted the relevance of Mexican women in the country and the fight for their rights. The governor, at the National Palace, emphasized that it is a priority of her administration to provide security and justice to all victims of gendered violence in the state.

In her speech which took place alongside Claudia Sheinbaum, Evelyn Salgado, Indira Vizcaíno, Lorena Cuéllar, Layda Sansores, Mara Lezama, the heads of government of Mexico City, Guerrero, Colima, Tlaxcala, Campeche, and Quintana Roo respectively, Marina del Pilar pointed out that nowadays more than never they are united in their fight for the dreams of all Mexican women as well as their fight to make way so that other women can be in decision-making spaces where they can make a difference to benefit everyone.

As such, the governor emphasized the policies with gender perspective promoted by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to whom she reiterated the permanent support from the people of Baja California, especially those women who are now being listened to and assisted after being abandoned by previous governments.

In addition, she spoke about women’s fight for equality in each of its stages in national history, with people like Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Doña Ifigenia Martínez, and Doña Rosario Ibarra de Piedra, who were landmarks in the revindication of the role of women in society.

“Today, the local governments of the Fourth Transformation, especially those led by us women, show a special sensibility when facing off and resolving problems that have been present for decades, because we make policies with a clear goal: for the good of all women, poor people first,” she said.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador highlighted that the Fourth Transformation is feminist due to the fact that, more than ever, women are leading the country’s transformation, which boosts democracy and the inclusion of all people when making decisions.

López Obrador thanked the role that women play regarding Bienestar actions, as most public servants are women who, directly with their communities, listen to the sentiment of the people and make sure that those who need it get the support that they need in order to significantly improve their quality of life; this includes seniors, people with disabilities, and women taking care of their families.

On the other hand, Marina del Pilar recognized the work of Mexican women workers that work in the industry, the fields, and services every day, while representing a fundamental foundation for their families and homes, which is why without them it would be impossible to comprehend the economic boost that distinguishes Mexico nationwide.

“I can’t stop recognizing the drive of so many women that organize every day and from the streets to promote a better society. We not only listen to them and learn from them, but we also have a deep commitment to meet their expectations: that is what our lives are all about,” she added.
