Marina del Pilar oversees Otay II Border Crossing progress together with US Government

Ken Salazar recognized Governor Marina del Pilar and other Mexican authorities’ collaboration

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, current Baja California Governor, met with American authorities and institutions from both sides of the border to verify the progress made in the new Otay II Border Crossing which will speed up this process between both countries.

During this meeting, which took place in the Otay Mesa construction zone, and alongside US Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, the Governor reaffirmed Baja California’s government’s will to coordinate with other authorities in the development of a project that aims to improve the life of the state’s inhabitants.

Ken Salazar expressed the importance of this project for binational life and recognized Governor Marina del Pilar’s and other Mexican authorities’ collaboration in boosting the development of the new port of entry, one of which will operate in Tijuana.

Additionally, Marina del Pilar stated that the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will visit Baja California this Thursday February 17 to supervise the construction project’s progress from the Mexican side.

The Governor stressed the importance of the economic, political, and cultural relation between both sides of the border, for these are two societies that can help, compliment, and build with each other to improve together their conditions in the future.

In the meeting, she emphasized the growing interactions between Tijuana and San Diego, which has made essential the new port of entry. This is so that it brings economic and touristic benefits, as well as reduce negative environmental impacts in the region.

The governor also emphasized that there is a political will in both sides of the border to invest so that waiting border crossing times are significantly reduced between Tijuana and San Diego, bringing positive impacts to overall quality of life.

“As governor, I affirm my commitment to do what I must do in our side of the border and keep cooperating with federal authorities with what is necessary to complete this project,” she stated.

Ken Salazar, US Ambassador to Mexico; Eleni Kounalakis, Lieutenant Governor of California; Todd Gloria, San Diego Mayor; Alejandra Sotelo, National City Mayor; Monserrat Caballero, Tijuana Mayoress; and Pablo Galvéz, Secretariat of Exterior Regarding Border Issues Director, among others, all participated in the meeting.
