Baja Beach Fest restrictions are forgotten

Health authorities had announced several sanitary measures to allow access to the event

Preventive measures against COVID-19 were put aside during the first day of the Baja Beach Fest, a musical event that will count with the presence of several Latin artists for 2 weekends.

The concert kicked off this Friday night, August 13, and despite the fact that the Secretariat of Health (SSa) announced the sanitary protocol indicated for the Festival, which was reiterated in the morning prior to the event, several photographs on social media have exposed the lack of sanitary measures implemented during the development of the event.

Previously, it had been confirmed that ticket sales would only be online, and with this strategy they were able to detect that most of the people attending would be from the United States.

The Secretary of Health of Baja California, Alonso Pérez Rico, affirmed that visitors who did not wear a mask, even if they presented a negative COVID-19 test or proof of vaccination, both basic requirements to enter the event, would be asked to leave.

Likewise, the presence of 40 SSa verifiers and some elements of the Secretariat of Sustainable Economy and Tourism (SEST) were assigned to perform a constant surveillance of the event, however, none of these strategies seem to have been applied on day 1 of the event.

Mexico is facing a third wave of COVID-19 and Baja California is one of the states that has been most affected by it. We will have to wait to see the response of the authorities to this situation that could be the scene of several infections.
