Through a statement on its official website, Carnival Cruise Line announced on September 16th the modification of its fleet and sails for certain vessels, including Carnival Fascination and Carnival Imagination which were put up for sale.

This is due to the fact that the Carnival Corporation chose to accelerate the elimination of less efficient ships from its fleet, among which were those mentioned above; while Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Inspiration were sold in July, according to the company.

As a result, both "Imagination" and "Inspiration" will no longer operate in the port of Ensenada, Baja California.

"While we are saddened to see Carnival Fascination and Carnival Imagination leave our fleet, it is a necessary step as it allows us to focus on the ships that offer the greatest variety of features and accommodations for our guests," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

Carnival Cruise Line indicated that they expect to return to operations by 2021, at which time they will continue to operate four upgraded Fantasy class ships: Carnival Ecstasy, Carnival Sensation, Carnival Elation and Carnival Paradise.

These ships "have additional balcony cabins, as well as enhanced restaurant and entertainment options that are part of the Fun Ship 2.0 upgrade program," they said.

However, due to this improvement program, four ships have been affected with respect to their itineraries, which are as follows:

"This extended break in our operations has also affected the availability of the shipyard and we have had to reschedule the necessary dry docks. As we continue to work through the issues related to our eventual return to operations, we are committed to providing our guests and travel agent partners with certainty where we can, although we regret that we have disappointed our guests. We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our guests and look forward to welcoming them back on board soon," said Duffy.
