The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) announced on Tuesday the closure of the existing northbound pedestrian street to the MTS transit center at the Otay Mesa port of entry (LPOE), which will last for six months.
In order to build a new northbound extension ramp that will better connect to the Otay Mesa Transit Center, so the MTS bus operations at the transit center will be affected and a fewer number of buses will pass, they will temporarily relocate to the intersection of Roll Drive and Via de la Amistad during this period.
Beginning next Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 6 a.m., the northbound pedestrian street to the MTS Transit Center will be temporarily closed until the spring of 2021.
For added convenience, MTS will move its bus operations to the intersection of Roll Drive and Via de la Amistad for bus routes 905, 909, 950 and Rapid 225. For pedestrians crossing the Otay Mesa LPOE, this intersection can be reached by continuing northbound on Roll Drive immediately after exiting the Pedestrian Inspection Building.
This work is part of the $137.2 million modernization and expansion project at the Otay Mesa land port of entry, which includes upgrading the existing pedestrian inspection facility and increasing the number of inspection booths from six to 12.
The traveling public must follow the signals to MTS' temporary transit sites.
