TIJUANA.- On the afternoon of Sunday 24, thousands of people gathered in the heart of Tijuana to taste one of its emblematic dishes: The Caesar Salad.
The 7th edition of the festival that honors the famous salad created in Tijuana expected over 4 thousand people and the goal was met. Attendees slowly made their way through the lines of people wanting to savor the salad and other delicious food prepared by over 15 restaurants in the expo.
The event was organized by CANIRAC (the National Chamber of Prepared Food and the Restaurant Industry) Tijuana-Tecate; the President of the Chamber, Julián Plascencia Huerta called it the opportunity to celebrate Tijuana's historic and gastronomic heritage.
Entire families enjoyed a wonderful afternoon; not only was there the famous salad, but dessert stands, paninis, seafood, paella, Sangria and much more. Restaurants like Giuseppis, Casa Plascencia, Spazio and Cien Años offered a variety of signature dishes from their menus.
This year a great cultural line up was featured as well as introducing a children's program. There was a kids' painting area, and a circus while Jazz, Flamenco and indie-pop bands provided the entertainment for locals and foreigners alike; lively groups were enjoying the traditional dish and talking about the new Tijuana, a safe place with lots to offer.
This event was just a sample of Tijuana's rebirth, it is estimated that just this year 55 restaurants with a variety of cuisines, have opened throughout the city.
Kristin Díaz de Sandi from "Life and Food" wrote about the event. She mentioned :"It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon spent celebrating Tijuana's own Caesar salad. Avenida Revolución was beaming with the aromas of charcoal grills, and various food options. With music playing in the background, and the street flooded with people, walking around with a plate piled high of Paella and Caesar salad was the perfect way to spend the day. Of course you couldn't resist washing it all down with an ice cold beer or glass of wine. These are the events that truly make you appreciate the city of Tijuana for its beauty, gastronomy, and people".
