TAMAULIPAS.- @Miut3 and Felina were the usernames that Doctor Maria del Rosario Fuentes Rubio used to denounce via social media the activities of a trafficking group in Tamaulipas. It appears as though her quest to denounce these groups led to her murder, in a case that has outraged the country and international community alike.
Messages on Maria's twitter feed asking her followers to not risk their lives or that of their families for something that "wasn't worth it" appeared and it is suspected that these messages were actually posted by her kidnappers, who tortured her before murdering her. In addition to the messages, photographs depicting Maria tortured and dead circulated via her own twitter account.
Authorities from Tamaulipas have started to investigate the matter, but residents see this incident as just another sign of violence that has spread throughout various states in Mexico, such as Michoacan and Guerrero.
The website that initially published Maria's murder has been working for more than a year to bring attention to various crimes, filing complaints and speaking out, despite multiple threats against its members which threatened to close them down. Despite this, they continue to work to make sure that murders and crimes don't go uncovered.
