AUSTIN.- Several activists and students protested against the University of Texas of the possible hiring of current president of Mexico Felipe Calderon as a professor.

In addition to the protest, there is a petition circulating on the internet asking for signatures, which they are hoping to gather more than 500,000 to back up this initiative.

The news website "Voces Huffington Post" (Spanish version of the Huffington Post) published a poll for the readers on their website, asking for their opinion about this topic in which 70% answered that they disapproved of Felipe Calderon as a professor at the University.

Months ago there had been some speculation about the Mexican elect president being in negotiations with some universities, about a teaching position in order to escape the violence that México is facing currently.

Since the beginning of his term as president, Felipe Calderon declared a war on drugs and organized crime, which has resulted in an estimated 60,000 deaths and missing persons.

Despite the statistics of some reports which certain government offices ignore or decline as being true, the citizens of Mexico have already in more than one occasion have protested against all of the violence, and made demands to stop this war because of all of the innocent lives that have been already lost.

For example, the Caravan for Peace led by the poet Javier Sicilia.

William Powers who is the dean of the University of Texas, has been receiving petitions in protest after news had been released about the possible hiring of the Felipe Calderon as a professor, in which other universities have been also mentioned like Harvard, Stanford and Georgetown.

There is also another petition that has been circulating on the internet, which is requesting that Felipe Calderon should be taking to the International Court of Justice for all the innocent lives that have been lost in his war against drugs and organized crime.

Aside from his political experience, Felipe Calderon is an attorney who graduated from Escuela Libre de Derecho, has a master's degree in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and a master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

His term as president of Mexico will conclude on November 30, 2012 and as of December 1, 2012 the presidency will be taken over by Enrique Peña Nieto.
