The 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana, led by Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, announced the "Expo Sordo 2023" (Deaf Exhibition) event which will take place on the International Day of Sign Languages.
The head of the Secretariat, Andrea Ruiz Galán, thanked the help by Mayor Montserrat in organizing Expo Sordo, whose goal is to spread awareness of the inclusion of people with disabilities in society, recognize Sign Languages in the country, and make the hearing community use these languages.
In addition, Mayor Montserrat is looking to empower the deaf community and celebrate the International Day of Sign Languages, which is why the Municipal Administration is encouraging Tijuana native families to take part in this event, stated Ruiz Galán.
The Municipal Government wants society to create awareness about the importance of sign languages so that deaf people can have the full implementation of their human rights.
This event will take place on Saturday, September 23 at Instituto Municipal de Arte y Cultura de Tijuana (IMAC) facilities, located in Calle Benito Juárez (2nd Streeet) and Avenida Constitución, from 9 AM to 3 PM.
As part of the 2nd edition of Expo Sordo, there will be a massive sign language class, and food and product sales offered by deaf people and associations who, with help from interpreters from the Mexican Sign Language Coordination from SEPM, will offer their services.
