Two children lose their lives during storm in Tijuana

An entire family was buried under mud in the early morning of today and two minors lost their lives

Due to the constant rain that has hit the city of Tijuana, a family was buried under mud, after a mudslide crashed into their home during the early morning of today January 16, 2023.

This incident was reported to the Fire Department and the staff at Estación 1 and Estación Central who arrived at the scene. Two adults and a 3-year-old child were rescued. Sadly, around 8 AM, the bodies of two children, ages 7 and 14, who lost their lives in this accident were recovered. The family was sleeping in the morning when the mudslide occurred.

Rains have reached an average of 24 millimeters this weekend, being one of the highest levels in the last few years. They have caused several damages around the city: fallen trees and light posts, floods, and mudslides that have caused over 50 accidents, with at least 19 of them being traffic accidents.

One of the main damages caused by rain is that several zones in the city are currently without electricity. However, it has been reported that the Federal Commission of Electricity (CFE) has begun repairs.

The Civil Protection Coordination Agency, as well as state authorities, have informed that all educational activities at all levels have been suspended to avoid risking both students and teaching staff. In addition, authorities recommend not going outside unless strictly necessary, unless your home is in a high risk area.
