Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Baja California, issued a decree that states that people older than 60 years of age living in poverty and vulnerability, as well as 50-year-old adults, and people with disabilities will not pay for water in 2023 in all of the state’s municipalities, which is why she asked those interested to enroll in this program to strengthen their economy.
The governor explained that this benefit will be given to people 60 years old and older who live in poverty, widows 50 years old or older, and people who don’t earn income five times greater than the Measurement and Update Unit (UMA), which equals to 448 pesos per day or 13,440 pesos per month.
Regarding the specific cases of Tijuana, Playas de Rosarito, Tecate, Ensenada, and San Quintin, consumption by these groups will be free of charge through the water management agency as long as they don’t exceed 15 cubic meters per month. Regarding cases in Mexicali and San Felipe, due to high temperatures, this exemption will be of 30 cubic meters during the same time period.
“Our government has as a priority the wellbeing of those who need it the most and who have been historically ignored by their governments. We give them our support and invite them to enroll in this program which represents a great benefit for all of you and your loved ones”, she said.
For his part, the Secretary of Water Management, Sanitation, and Protection of Baja California, José Armando Fernández Samaniego, specified that this benefit will be only for one address per beneficiary, prior to a socioeconomic study carried out by the agency on their respective municipality.
