Governor Marina del Pilar reinforces movements against Gender Violence in Baja California

She emphasises generating stable conditions so women can live without fear

Baja California’s governor, Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, got together with commercial shops of Mexico to install safe spaces called “Puntos Naranja” or “Orange Points” that will serve as safe havens to protect girls and women that don’t feel safe or are victims of some sort of violence caused by the other gender. This is a part of the International Day of Erradicating Violence Against Women agenda.

This event took place in the Civic Center of the city of Mexicali where Baja California’s leader declared that she’s generating heavy responsibility and pressure to protect women and children, generating ideal conditions for them to live without fear.

“Today we give the first step with the creation of Orange Points, safe spaces where women who’ve been victims of communitarian violence can feel protected, they’ll receive information and will establish first contact with our authorities” said the Governor

Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda pointed out that it’s very important that the private and public sector go ahead and add to the project that has full intention to make the life of the women and girls of Baja California better through immediate protection actions.

“Orange Points will be proof that the road to progression doesn’t go through confrontation, but through the union of forces and efforts, it’s about making Baja California a better state in every social aspect” she manifested

The mandatory reiterated that the Baja California Secretary of Citizen Security will count on a Violet Squad, because it gave positive results when she was Municipal President in Mexicali and that will work to eradicate Gender Violence against girls and women who live in all 7 cities of the state.

“Let’s stop the violence against women and girls in Baja California, let’s eradicate Gender Violence, build a society where we teach our youth. That all men share the respect to women’s rights and dignity” she added.

Miriam Cano Núñez, Secretary of Social Inclusion or Gender Equality; Karla Janette Pedrín Rembao, Leader of the Women of Baja California Institute; Jorge Alberto Menchaca, Regional Vicepresident of de CONCANACO; Bárbara Garcia, representative of Tijuana’s City Hall and Adalberto Alatorre, Subdirector of Mexicali’s Crime Prevention unit were present in the event.
