Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, governor-elect of Baja California, celebrated the official announcement of the reopening of the border for non-essential crossings starting next November, also highlighting the diplomatic work led by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón.
Marina del Pilar highlighted the importance of the announcement for Baja California's economy, commerce and society, and attributed the decision to the coordination in sanitary matters between the Mexican Government and the U.S. Government, which will lead to a long awaited opening on both sides of the border.
Likewise, the Governor-elect emphasized the work of the federal authorities to generate vaccination certificates, which will be key when trying to cross into U.S. territory through the ports of entry. This is a true case of binational coordination that will significantly strengthen trade in North America.
She added that the work of President López Obrador and Secretary Ebrard Casaubón has demonstrated to the United States that the sanitary protocols on the Mexican side, as well as the current state of the pandemic, will generate the appropriate conditions to once again allow south-to-north border crossings, giving rise to activities that had been suspended for more than a year and a half.
Additionally, the Governor-elect reaffirmed that the incoming government of Baja California will work in harmony with the public policies of President López Obrador's government, such as support for people with disabilities, senior citizens, and the regularization of American cars, among others.
