Tijuana's Avenida Revolución is giving us a new surprise almost every week for the last couple of months, with new culinary spots, nightlife and even housing offerings adding to its development.
New places can come off as pretentious for some, catering to hipsters but not really offering something of value. At least, that's the complaint from some of the more traditional Revolución visitors. But others are truly innovating and genuinely add value to the famous street.
Two local entrepreneurs saw that the "Revu" lacked an essential piece of the TIjuana culinary mosaic: Tacos. So, they set out to use their already successful Oaxacan restaurant on Fifth and Revolución in order to offer tourist the traditional Tijuana carne asada taco.
Tacos, Who doesn't need them in life?
“Taco Grill TJ” is actually a different concept from the already established and popular “La Casa de la Tlayuda”, although they share the same owners and location. There's not hip gimmick to them, or special craft-thingy. Good, not expensive, Tijuana tacos.
Right on the corner of Calle 5ta and Revolución, it's also surrounded by some of the city's more popular nightlife spots. After a night of partying, the cravings are fierce and these tacos are betting that you'll want something nearby right on Revolución.
There are several taquerías a block or two on either side of Revolución, but not actually on it. And not with quality ingredients that can inspire confidence late at night.
So now you know. The next time you're going out in Tijuana and wanting to enjoy some nice asada tacos, with the traditional guacamole, turnips, limes and hot salsas, and above all, a nice, clean place that also offers great traditional Oaxacan cuisine.
It's here.
You can enjoy your tacos right there on the sidewalk like any taquería, or head to the "La Casa de la Tlayuda" restaurant's second floor and enjoy them on the terrace.
Each tacos is just 20 pesos, a relief from the pricier and more established taco spots in Tijuana, which can now charge up to 24 or 25 pesos. There's only beef (asada) tacos available at the moment, as the owners want to concentrate on offering quality first, and then work on diversifying the menu as they become more established. And succesful.
Tacos are always welcomed, so good luck to the Taco Grill Tj and congrats on opening.
