Baja Governor Kiko Vega Gets To Know The Border Angels

He met with the director and founder of the organization, Enrique Morones

TIJUANA.- State Governor, Francisco "Kiko" Vega de Lamadrid welcomed today in his office the founder and director of the organization Ángeles de la Frontera" (Border Angels) Enrique Morones Careaga, who showed the governor the different projects his group was carrying out for supporting migrants on both sides of the border, as well as preserving traditions and promoting the country's good image.

Morones Careaga explained to the State executive what actions they've carried out, and those planed for this year in support of the migrant population, with some related to legal and humanitarian assistance, and other actions related to fundraising campaigns that will aid their overall work, wit the help of the binational community.

Vega acknowledged the hard work activist like Enrique Morones and his organization have done for years, pointing out that in this administration, through the State Council of Attention to Migrants, he has been able to work in a coordinated manner with different civilian groups, as well as with the federal and municipal governments so as to implement actions that will allow assisting this migratory phenomenon and its population.

He assured them that during the first days of his administration, a work plan was put into motion that focused its attention to migrants in the "El Bordo" area in Tijuana, near the border, a humanitarian problem looking to be solved in an comprehensive manner with the support of all the Government branches and civil society groups, for which a project coordinated by the State Council of Attention to Migrants is being worked on.

On his behalf, the Border Angels representative explained that the project called "Casa de México" (House of Mexico), consists in enabling a permanent exhibit in San Diego's Balboa Park, intended to be inaugurated during the park's 100th year anniversary, in September, for which Morones Careaga made an invitation to the Governor so that Baja California is present as part of the exhibit. Taking Morones at his word, Governor Vega ordered that the Tourism Minister and the State Cultural Institute attend the inauguration.

Other projects that were presented to Vega de Lamadrid were the filming of a promotional film to highlight Tijuana's good image to the world, as well as other artistic/cultural projects, with their main focus being a grand concert at the end of the year.

During the meeting, the Governor was accompanied by Secretary of Social Development (SEDESOE in Spanish), Ricardo Magaña Mosqueda; President of the State Council of Attention to Migrants, Carlos Mora Álvarez and local entrepreneur Enrique Von Borstel.
