U.S. National Soccer team vs. Mexico Showdown

Both teams looking to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil

Tomorrow the Mexican National Soccer Team will be playing against the United States, one of its fiercest rivals, and who is forced to win this match in order to be able to continue in the classification zone towards the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Mexico has not been satisfied with the results of their last two matches, in which they have had a scoreless game at the Azteca Stadium against Jamaica, and then another draw (2-2) in their visit to Honduras last week. In this match, Mexico lost a two-goal lead after dominating the game for more than 75 minutes.

On Tuesday, the team led by Jose Manuel de la Torre needs to win in order to leave the fourth spot in their group, which will only hand out three tickets for Brazil 2014, plus another ticket that will be contested against an Oceania.

In the match against Honduras, Mexico at first held their ground well on defense and showed good ball control. Their offensive attacks from the midfield worked well, but in the last 15 minutes were two goals. One from an error of a distracted defender, Francisco Javier Rodriguez, and the second goal by Honduras came by a controversial penalty.

The draw cost Mexico, who was favorite to qualify for the World Cup directly, and now is winless in the qualifying rounds that is led by Honduras with four points, followed by the United States with three, Panama, Mexico and Jamaica with two respectively, and Costa Rica at the moment only has one.

The U.S. national team and German coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, have now arrived in Mexico and are very motivated after beating Costa Rica (1-0). They are confident that they will perform well at the Azteca stadium, where last year they beat Mexico in a friendly match.

Klinsmann tomorrow will probably use two players who are currently playing in the Mexican soccer league, midfielder from Puebla, DaMarcus Beasley, and striker Herculez Gomez from Santos Laguna. A possible third player might be midfielder Joe Corona from Club Tijuana. All of these players are well known figures, and are very familiar with the Mexican soccer team.

Mexico has previously defeated the U.S. in three World Cup qualifying matches at the Azteca stadium, but all three wins have been by the difference of only one goal. Therefore tomorrows match is expected to be an offensive duel between Mexico, who has had a slow start in the tournament, and the U.S. who has beaten Mexico in a friendly match and intends to do it now in an official match.

Possible line-up:

Mexico: Guillermo Ochoa, Francisco Rodriguez, Hector Moreno, Jorge Torres Nilo, Severo Meza, Carlos Salcido, Jesus Zavala, Javier Aquino, Andres Guardado, Giovani Dos Santos and Javier Hernandez. Head Coach: Jose Manuel de la Torre.

USA: Brad Guzan, Geof Cameron, Omar Gonzalez, Clarence Goodson DaMarcus Beasley, Jermaine Jones, Michael Bradley, Graham Zusi, Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altidore and Herculez Gomez. Head Coach: Jurgen Klinsmann.
