Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz of Playas de Rosarito has released information from the assessment carried out by the state’s Commission for Protection Against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) regarding the water quality of local beaches.
The results of the microbiological analysis of beach waters, corresponding to the period from March 18 to March 31, 2025, revealed a mixed situation regarding their suitability for recreational use.
The head of the Firefighter and Civil Protection Directorate (DBCP), Joaquín Mercado de Santiago, explained that the beach near the Smart & Final convenience store is currently the only one that meets sanitary standards for swimming.

In contrast, authorities have determined that Rosarito I (Pier), Hotel Rivera, and Rosarito III (Thermoelectric Plant) beaches are not safe for public use due to the water quality levels detected during the sampling period.
He noted that, in response to this situation, the mayor has instructed the department to maintain constant surveillance along the coastline.

“Mayor Rocío Adame of Rosarito has asked us to maintain constant vigilance along the entire beach to urge citizens not to enter restricted areas,” stated Director Mercado de Santiago.
As a preventive measure and to inform the public, DBCP personnel have installed red flags along the shoreline at the unsafe beaches as well as signs explaining the current situation.
The Playas de Rosarito City Hall calls on citizens and visitors to act responsibly, urging them to follow the guidelines and avoid entering the water at beaches marked as unsafe, prioritizing their health and well-being.
