The vehicle carrying Chavez's coffin which was cover with the country's flag and a crown with yellow and white flowers, began its trip from the military hospital and ended at the Military Academy. Surrounding the vehicle was the honor guard of Venezuela and Chavez's successor, Nicolas Maduro.
"Patria, patria, patria querida, tuya es mi alma, tuyo es mi amor…" were chants from the crowd who followed the vehicle for miles.
Present at the Military Academy were the supporters of Hugo Chavez, his family and mother, Elena Chavez, who were all there to say their last good bye.
The National Cemetery is where Chavez might be buried at, which is the resting place of Simon Bolivar, who was also a military and political leader of Venezuela. This request was made by one of the representatives of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela through his Twitter account.
"The political height of the Commander Chavez policy and his commitment to the country, has earned him a place beside the grave of Simon Bolivar" said Freddy Bernal in his message.
Yamile Gil told a local newspaper: "I feel so much pain. We never wanted to see our president like this, we loved him so much. "
Now that Chavez is dead, who is the president of Venezuela? The answer to this is not that simple because, although Nicolas Maduro was named by Hugo Chavez as his successor, he still has no power due to the fact that Chavez was never sworn in as president, which now makes Diosdado Cabello (president of the National Assembly) the official president of Venezuela.
