Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda has announced the conclusion of the “Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience” exhibition at the Mexicali Convention Center. The event left a lasting impression on thousands of attendees, including 10,000 children and teens from various schools and priority areas within the city.
Thanks to this exhibition, access to culture was strengthened as a right for everyone, bringing art to a broader audience and sparking creativity and learning in both children and adults. Governor Marina del Pilar shared that this experience will undoubtedly stay with all those who attended.

She noted that the exhibition—showcasing the works of Dutch painter Van Gogh—was the first of its kind in the region. It captivated thousands of families from Mexicali, Baja California, and the US, breaking attendance records for an exhibition in the state capital.
Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience, named in 2021 as the best immersive experience, was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the state government, through the Secretariat of Culture, which managed to bring this international event to Mexicali and offer the community a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of art.

Alma Delia Ábrego Ceballos, head of Baja California’s Secretariat of Culture, stated that over 10,000 children and teenagers from several different elementary and secondary schools, children’s homes, and shelters in Mexicali, Valle de Mexicali, and priority areas experienced this event, which became a cultural landmark in the region.
The expo featured six exhibition rooms, providing attendees with a multisensory experience that blended a virtual reality tour with an interactive drawing space, giving everyone the chance to engage with and experience Van Gogh’s works in a completely unique way, Governor Marina del Pilar explained.

The exhibition was especially meaningful for families in Baja California, who chose this activity as their cultural outing. “The Starry Night”, one of the painter’s most iconic works, stood out as a highlight.
Ábrego Ceballos highlighted that Mexicali business owners joined forces with the Secretariat of Culture, distributing over 1,600 free tickets to public school students—primarily from Valle de Mexicali—which were also complemented by educational tours at CEART.
