Baja California was one of the most awarded states in this year’s edition of the Food and Travel Reader Awards 2024. Organized by this specialized media outlet, awards are given by readers and experts from the gastronomic and tourism industries who vote in several categories to highlight the very best of Mexico.
These awards, now in their ninth edition, highlight destinations, chefs, restaurants, and wine regions that offer high-quality experiences and contribute to the growth of the industry and, this year, Valle de Guadalupe was one of the most significant standouts.
In this edition, Valle de Guadalupe was named the Best Wine Region in Mexico, consolidating its importance in national wine production. Furthermore, Baja California received the National Hot Spot of the Year award, thanks to its natural wealth and culinary offerings.

In addition, oenologist Hugo D’Acosta received the Editor’s Choice Award for Gastronomic Career, in recognition of his contributions to the winemaking industry. Meanwhile, Chef Óscar Torres of Animalón was awarded Best Stand-Out Chef, reflecting the talent driving the state’s gastronomy.
Baja California’s Secretary of Tourism Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez congratulated the award winners for their outstanding work in the wine and gastronomy fields, as it highlights their commitment and dedication.
He added that the quality of their wines, chefs’ creativity, and the wealth of their natural surroundings continue to attract national and international visitors, driving the tourism industry’s growth and making of the region a benchmark for culinary and wine experiences.
