In Baja California, Uber customers from Tijuana and Mexicali can now pay their rides in cash. The company will be progressively testing this new option in eight Mexican cities and trying to give both passengers and drivers the option to request and accept it, respectively, meaning that it's neither obligatory nor restrictive.
Uber drivers who accept this cash payment will be required to offer exact change to their passengers. After a week of training, the new program will be tested for customer-approval and efficiency.
"All of our security measures will be present before, during, and after each ride, including the choice to share a route with another passenger and rating the driver", says the official statement of Uber Mexico regarding this new plan.
