Reaffirming Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana’s commitment, the municipal government has repaired 60 streetlights on Bulevar 2000 and Bulevar Las Fuentes, directly benefiting residents of the La Presa Este Delegation aiming to prioritize safety and well-being for citizens.

Virginia Vargas González, the Secretary of Territorial and Urban Development, explained that a streetlight maintenance program was implemented to identify several fixtures that were damaged or non-functional. The necessary repairs were made to ensure proper lighting on these key roads.

Vargas González emphasized that, as part of this program, a comprehensive review of the public lighting registry will be carried out to promptly identify non-working streetlights across the city. This will allow for timely repairs, zone-based work plans, and control panel maintenance to ensure high-quality public lighting.

Another important feature of this program is to respond to citizen reports quickly and effectively to improve resident satisfaction. This includes traffic signal maintenance and, where needed, installation of overhead wiring to provide more efficient infrastructure for road signage and traffic safety.

By installing uniform, high-quality streetlights, the city aims to eliminate the “zebra effect”, i.e., uneven lighting that creates dark spots between fixtures. The goal is to ensure continuous illumination, reducing shadowed areas that could lead to accidents or criminal activity, thereby improving safety for pedestrians and drivers.

Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana stated that modernizing urban infrastructure is key to the city’s development. For this reason, the municipal government will continue upgrading Tijuana’s public lighting to provide a safer environment for all.
