The 25th City Hall has implemented assistance checkpoints at the ports of entry, as part of the initiatives promoted by Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana, through the Secretariat of Economic Development of Tijuana (SEDETI).

Pedro Montejo Peterson, head of SEDETI, explained that these checkpoints, recently implemented at the San Ysidro and Otay ports of entry, have assisted drivers who require help with situations such as tire changes, battery jumps, vehicle overheating, general mechanical issues, wrong turns, and basic medical care as they wait in line to cross into the US.

Montejo Peterson said that the checkpoints are located at each port of entry 24 hours a day, 365 days a year where trained personnel are available to provide services. In San Ysidro, a supervisor carries out constant patrols alongside a paramedic and five traffic assistance officers, while in Otay, another supervisor, a paramedic, and two traffic assistance officers work in coordination to ensure the efficiency of the checkpoints.

It should be noted that from February 3 to February 16, a total of 153 assistance actions were provided, with 108 at the San Ysidro port of entry and 45 at the Otay port of entry, reflecting the positive impact of this initiative.
