Ahead of the 2025 Tianguis Turístico, the Tijuana government, under Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, has rolled out a series of infrastructure projects aimed at improving border facilities, benefiting both residents and visitors attending this major event.
Pedro Montejo Peterson, Secretary of Economic Development, shared that one of the key projects currently underway is the expansion of the Fast Lane at the Otay Border Crossing. This effort aims to streamline vehicle traffic and significantly cut down wait times for travelers.

The project includes a 400 meter extension, featuring concrete center barriers to clearly mark the lane. The first phase is currently 60% complete.
These enhancements underscore the administration’s commitment to ensuring smooth and efficient mobility at border crossings, not only for daily commuters to the United States but also for visitors attending the Tianguis Turístico.
They also contribute to Tijuana’s image as a modern, forward-thinking, and welcoming destination.

Complementary works are also planned at the San Ysidro crossing, including repainting and repairing the metal fencing. The idea is to transform this high-traffic area into a more functional and visually appealing space, while also preserving existing infrastructure.
These efforts are intended to enhance both operations and public perception, ensuring that those crossing the border leave with a positive impression of the city.

These initiatives form part of a wider strategy from Tijuana’s government to prepare for the 2025 Tianguis Turístico.
