Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz remains steadfast in his commitment to strengthen cross-border ties with U.S. authorities. As part of this effort, his administration hosted a delegation of 25 elected officials from Los Angeles County, California, on April 11 and 12.
The visit was organized in partnership with the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles as part of the first binational FAM TRIP. Pedro Montejo Peterson, Tijuana’s Secretary of Economic Development, assured that the main goal was to foster economic, tourism, and cultural connections between the neighboring regions.

Welcoming the U.S. delegation were Montejo Peterson, Downtown District Delegate José Luis Portillo Reyes, and members of the City Council. Over the course of two days, the visitors participated in a series of tours and activities highlighting Tijuana’s infrastructure for medical tourism, urban development, and investment potential.
Among the foreign officials were Imelda Padilla, Los Angeles City Councilmember; Rita Soto, Mayor of Lynwood; and Luis McArthur, Mayor of Oxnard.

Also in attendance were Salvador Meléndez, Mayor of Montebello; Maywood Mayor Mayra Aguiluz and Councilmember Eddie de la Riva; Sal Medina, Claremont Councilmember; and Óscar Gutiérrez, Councilmember from Santa Barbara. They all expressed a strong interest in expanding collaboration with the border city.
Representatives from the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles and leaders from organizations such as Latino Media Collaborative and Tzunu Strategies also participated, underscoring the strategic value of initiatives like this.

Through actions like these, Mayor Burgueño’s administration continues to create new opportunities for investment, tourism, and economic growth, reinforcing its commitment to international cooperation and regional development.
