The government led by Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana has taken the necessary steps, through the Secretariat of Territorial and Urban Development, to repair six recently identified sinkholes located at several spots in the city: three in the La Mesa delegation and three in the Sánchez Taboada neighborhood.

During a press conference, the Director of Municipal Projects and Urban Infrastructure (DOIUM), Fram Ochoa Chávez, reported that the first incident was registered on February 19 with the collapse of a slab on Vía Rápida near the Bernardo O’Higgins bridge. Regarding this issue, 50 linear meters of collapsed piping were detected and the repair process concluded on March 7.

Ochoa Chávez mentioned that another incident occurred in Cañón de Sainz, in the Sánchez Taboada delegation, where the situation is being assessed by the proper staff. In this case, repairs are estimated to take four to five weeks.

The head of DOIUM added that during an inspection visit to address a sinkhole on Avenida Xicoténcatl Leyva in the Camino Verde neighborhood of the Sánchez Taboada delegation, it was seen that the damage was caused by surface rainwater that affected an unprotected slope.

The estimated repair time for this area is three to five weeks. Additionally, he noted another report on Anaximandro Street, also in the Camino Verde neighborhood.

He also stated that the most recent sinkhole report occurred on March 21 on Vía Rápida at the level of Bulevar Clouthier. Repair work began immediately, and the road was reopened for traffic on Tuesday, March 25.

The 25th City Hall of Tijuana reiterates its commitment to strengthening urban infrastructure and creating conditions that ensure pedestrians and drivers can travel on roads in optimal and safe conditions.
