City Hall has promptly addressed several reports from citizens regarding foul odors emanating from the lake at Parque de la Amistad, part of the efforts to provide clean and safe recreational spaces as instructed by Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, Mayor of the City of Tijuana.
Through the Municipal Themed Parks System of Tijuana (SIMPATT), a change in the lake’s color and odor was detected. As a result, and with support from several municipal and state agencies, cleaning efforts will be carried out in the stormwater drainage area that flows into the park’s lake. Additionally, permanent monitoring will be conducted to rule out or confirm any type of impact on the flora and fauna.
Similarly, the intervention of the State Public Services Commission of Tijuana (CESPT) was requested to detect the source of the liquid flow entering through the stormwater drainage system. The Secretariat of Municipal Well-Being was also asked to expedite procedures with the proper agencies and organizations to promptly resolve the issue.

Furthermore, the Directorate of Environmental Protection (DPA) carried out the necessary procedures to assess the lake’s water quality, aiming to prevent harm to its flora and fauna. If any warning signs are detected, a more thorough investigation into the case will be requested.
City Hall will continue working in coordination with state agencies to care for and protect municipal parks’ green areas and lakes, with the goal of continuing to provide spaces for recreation, healthy leisure, and sports for Tijuana’s families.
