How to Get to Tijuana International Airport?

Blockades have been set up at the main entrance to the airport terminal. Nearby roads affected include Libertad neighborhood, close to the roundabout connecting to Tijuana Airport, and on the Otay area, past the Matrix hangar.

In response to this situation, several alternatives have been implemented to assist passengers:

  • Walking: According to social media reports, travelers must walk approximately 3 kilometers to reach the airport from the blockade points. This walk takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Free Airport Shuttle: The airport has provided free shuttle services from both sides of the blockade, from 70-76 neighborhood and from Otay, to transport users to the terminal entrance.
  • Transport from Military Air Base No. 12: The State General Secretariat, together with the Pacific Airport Group, has arranged a free shuttle service from Military Air Base No.  12 (Av. Fuerza Aérea Mexicana, Aeropuerto, 22404) to the airport terminal.
  • Assistance for People with Reduced Mobility: Some Maclovio Rojas protesters have offered their own vehicles to transport elderly or disabled individuals free of charge.

It should be noted that taxis are also offering services, but at a cost ranging from $50 to $100 pesos ($2.50-$5 USD) per person.

Why Is Tijuana International Airport Blockaded?

Protesters from Ejido Maclovio Rojas are demanding to be addressed directly by Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The main reason for their protest is related to demands for the regularization of their land as the community claims that the titles issued by authorities are allegedly fake and contain incorrect information.

Protesters have stated that they will maintain the blockade until federal and state authorities respond to resolve the issue.

For now, airport authorities have reported that they are working closely with airlines to raise awareness about the situation and provide support to affected passengers.
