U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a member of a brutal Salvadoran gang who was detained as he walked along Eastlake Parkway in Chula Vista, the agency announced Wednesday.
The agents questioned the man, who walking just north of Olympic Parkway on Friday, and he admitted to having entered the country illegally. He was arrested and taken to a detention center for processing.
There, they discovered he had a criminal record that revealed he was a gang member of Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13. He had a tattoo on his wrist that identified him as a member of the gang as well as a three-point symbol, also used by the gang, the announcement said.
The man, who was not identified, is being held to await his court case.
