In this first episode of Una Mordida Tacos Rosarito, our host visited “Birria Alex II” located in Boulevard Sharp 1, Calle Benito Juárez. Here he tried two tacos: a traditional birria taco priced at $1.25 dollars (25 pesos) and a quesabirria taco priced at $1.50 dollars (30 pesos).
Quesabirria Taco
This was the first taco given to our Chef. This taco has birria meat, onion, coriander, Jack cheese, and cabbage as the topping, quite an unusual ingredient which he had never seen before in birria tacos; all of this was served in two tortillas that are apparently fried.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny noted that the tortillas were neither fried nor crunchy. The “garden” (onion, coriander, and cabbage) gives the taco a nice flavor as it is a good combination. The meat was soft, but its flavor was neutral, since it was missing condiments, so the lime had to be used so its flavor could stand out. Neither the corn from the tortillas nor the cheese could be tasted on the first bite, but by the second one, Chef Danny was able to perceive the Jack cheese. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.3.

Birria Taco
This type of taco has been tasted endlessly in this show and what makes this one different is the addition of cabbage to the vegetables served. This taco also has meat, coriander, onion, chili sauce, and is served in two corn tortillas.
The taco was dry because it was not in its “broth”, as it is usually done in other stands. Chef Danny didn’t really like the tortilla because it wasn’t fried (if it had been, it would have justified the taco’s dryness). The vegetables added a lot of flavor, but, unfortunately, most of the taco’s meat was concentrated in the front. By the time the taco was almost over, there was almost no protein left. This is why this taco gets a rating of 5.5.
