Restoration of Tijuana’s Monuments and SITT Stations Underway to Revitalize the City

Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana has begun cleaning and restoration efforts to improve urban conditions in the city.

The 25th City Hall led by Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana has begun cleaning and restoration works at several monuments and stations of the Tijuana Urban Mass Passenger Transportation System (SITT) to enhance the city’s urban conditions.

As such, the Secretariat of Territorial and Urban Development has launched a comprehensive intervention plan for the Abraham Lincoln and Ignacio Zaragoza monuments, as well as the Independencia Roundabout. Actions include removing graffiti from the bases, floors, niches, signage, and chains of these monuments to restore their appearance.

Restoration work at the Independencia Roundabout began on March 22 and is currently 70% complete. Meanwhile, the Abraham Lincoln monument is 80% complete and work has also started on the Ignacio Zaragoza monument.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat of Sustainable Urban Mobility, Inspection, and Road Safety (SEMOVIS) has carried out several cleaning and restoration tasks at affected stations along Paseo de los Héroes, including: No. 30 Plaza Río Norte, No. 31 Cuauhtémoc Norte, No. 31 Cuauhtémoc Sur, No. 32 Ignacio Zaragoza Norte, and No. 32 Ignacio Zaragoza Sur.

SITT work crews are performing station restoration tasks such as removing trash, cleaning confined lanes, washing floors, painting over graffiti-covered walls, and installing drywall and polycarbonate glass panels for greater durability. 

With these actions, the 25th City Hall of Tijuana reaffirms its commitment to maintaining the city’s public spaces, ensuring Tijuana remains an orderly place for all its residents.
