Acting through the Municipal Department of Civil Protection, the administration of Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz in Tijuana confirmed that no incidents were recorded during the initial week of the Easter holiday period.

In this regard, Municipal Director of Civil Protection, José Luis Jiménez González, stated that as part of the “Safer Vacations” operation, the agency increased their presence in Playas de Tijuana, El Carrizo Reservoir, and the Abelardo L. Rodríguez dam.

He noted that the effort, conducted with the Tijuana Fire Department and the Aquatic Rescue Unit, drew an estimated 15,000 visitors to the three previously mentioned sites between Thursday, April 17, and Sunday, April 20.

“Fortunately, there were no regrettable incidents during these first few days. Our prevention messages reached the public, we prepared with an intense campaign to inform more people, and the community followed our recommendations, resulting in an incident-free Easter break,” the official emphasized.

Jiménez González mentioned that around 2,300 preventive warnings were issued in Playas de Tijuana, 1,620 in the El Carrizo dam, and 265 in the Abelardo L. Rodríguez dam. These included messages advising visitors to stay away from risk zones and avoid entering the sea or dams, among other safety recommendations.

Civil Protection staff also distributed flyers with safety tips before, during, and after the holiday period at key intersections in the city, Parque de la Amistad, and Avenida Revolución.

These efforts were complemented by inspections of swimming pools and public water parks, which led to the closure of one recreational pool facility in the eastern part of the city over the weekend.

José Luis Jiménez González noted that while the Easter holiday period officially ended last Sunday, students from primary and secondary schools remain on break, meaning an increase in visitors is expected in the coming days.

The head of Civil Protection added that the “Safer Vacations” operation will remain active until next weekend to ensure the safety of both locals and tourists, with increased presence and preventive measures at strategic locations.
