Mexicali’s Public Security Directorate (DSPM) will begin issuing fines for transporting waste in public areas without a permit. This initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Office, the Public Services Office, the City Secretariat, the Fire Department, and the Cabinet Coordination, forms part of a strategy to combat air pollution in the municipality.

All DSPM patrol units will enforce Article 54, Clause XXI, of the municipal traffic code, which states:

“Driving with solid urban waste in box trucks, flatbeds, stake trucks, semi-trailers, pickup trucks, or any other type of cargo transport without a valid permit issued by the Environmental Protection Department of Mexicali, or carrying waste under the jurisdiction of federal or state authorities without the relevant permits.”

Cabinet Coordinator Víctor Hugo Delgado noted that the measure aims to reduce waste accumulation in vacant lots, which often become fire hazards.

The regulation carries a minimum fine of 5,657 pesos and requires the offender to clean the affected area. Víctor Hugo Delgado confirmed that the enforcement will apply to those caught in the act or reported via 911.
