Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz of Rosarito joined the launch of the voluntary disarmament campaign “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace,” a national initiative that seeks to bring peace across Mexico. The event took place in Tijuana, Baja California.
“In Playas de Rosarito, we raise our voices in favor of peace and disarmament. Today, we answer President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s call to forge a nation where security is founded on justice, not fear,” she declared, reaffirming her administration’s commitment to reducing violence.
The mayor stood beside Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, Father Jesús Cárdenas, and representatives from various municipalities and security institutions during the ceremony, held in front of Tijuana’s Cathedral.

Governor Ávila Olmeda stated that the campaign’s core goal is to prevent violence through actions like removing weapons that pose a latent threat to public safety. She also highlighted that the decline in crime rates in the state reflects efforts to address the root causes of violence, and acknowledged the crucial role of the church in fostering a lasting culture of peace.

The “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace” campaign encourages citizens to voluntarily turn in firearms in exchange for financial compensation. Officials assured that the process is entirely anonymous, with full confidentiality and no investigation into how the weapons were obtained.
Playas de Rosarito’s participation in this initiative highlights the local government’s ongoing dedication to building a more peaceful and secure place for everyone.
