Mayor Norma Bustamante of Mexicali Strengthens Ties with Export Industry to Address New Tariffs After Trump’s Announcement

The mayor aims to unite efforts by working with business chambers.

Mayor Norma Bustamante of Mexicali met with members of the Export Manufacturing Industry (Index Mexicali) to reinforce collaborative efforts for the economy and job creation in the capital of Baja California.

Following the announcement of U.S. tariff measures against Mexico, the mayor, accompanied by her team, stated that she agreed with the export industry to create a united front to face this new challenge. “Mexicali is a resilient city. We have managed to reach international markets with products manufactured here in our capital, so I call on everyone to stay united and support President Claudia Sheinbaum’s plan,” she said.

She also noted that this alliance will help develop strategies to protect Mexicali natives’ jobs and economy, ensuring the well-being of their families.

The president of Index Mexicali, Salvador Maese, endorsed Mayor Norma Bustamante’s proposal and invited her to collaborate in council meetings to develop a negotiation plan that will be presented in Washington.

Meanwhile, the president-elect of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE Mexicali), Octavio Sandoval, acknowledged the support provided by the municipal government, led by Mayor Norma Bustamante of Mexicali, regarding facing this new challenge for the country, assuring that it will be overcome by working together.
