Mayor Norma Bustamante of Mexicali Opens First PILARES Center to Promote Community Well-Being

PILARES centers will offer services and activities focused on health, economy, education, culture, and sports.

Mayor Norma Bustamante of Mexicali inaugurated the first PILARES (Innovation, Liberty, Arts, Education, and Knowledge Spots) Center in Casa Digna. This initiative aims to create spaces for building peace and well-being in communities.

The mayor of Mexicali emphasized that this model, created by President Claudia Sheinbaum, seeks to combat social inequality by offering services and activities focused on health, economy, education, culture, and sports.

She also announced that in this first phase, the centers—previously known as “CDHI”—located in the communities of Portales, Valle de Puebla, Robledo, Santorales, and Ángeles de Puebla will be opened and equipped.

Furthermore, community representative Angelina Patiño thanked Mayor Norma Bustamante of Mexicali for investing in and revitalizing this space for the families of Casa Digna. “We are very excited to have a PILARES center to promote the well-being of our women, young people, and children,” she said.

This event was attended by the President of DIF Baja California, Mavis Olmeda; the President of the State Congress Board, Deputy Evelyn Sánchez; the Coordinator of the Secretariat of Culture’s State Music System, Emiliano López; the Director of Municipal Social Well-Being (BISOM), José Ramón López, as well as officials from all three levels of government and community residents.
