Mexicali’s maquiladora industry kicked off 2025 with remarkable performance, reaching the highest export level for any January on record, according to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

In the first month of the year, foreign earnings for the city’s manufacturing plants reached an impressive 6.5 billion pesos.

“We continue to see positive economic news, and that drives us to keep working. It’s all for the well-being of the people of Mexicali,” said Norma Bustamante, the city’s mayor.

This figure not only surpasses the 5.1 billion pesos reported for January 2024 but also highlights the continued upward trend in exports, driven by the strong productivity of Mexicali’s maquiladora sector.

Exports from the manufacturing sector saw a 27.6% increase in January 2025 compared to the same month the previous year, according to INEGI’s data.

Additionally, INEGI reports that by January 31, 2025, Mexicali was home to 149 active manufacturing establishments, an increase of two compared to the 147 registered at the same time in 2024.
