Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana led the commemorative ceremony marking the 219th anniversary of the birth of former Mexican President Benito Juárez García. Here, he recognized Juárez’s legacy and contributions to the comprehensive development of the country, as well as his role in establishing peace and democracy, which earned him the title of “Benemérito de las Américas” (Illustrious Patriot of the Americas).

“With great respect and admiration for his invaluable contributions, here, where the homeland begins, we commemorate another anniversary of the birth of former President Benito Juárez García, one of our greatest Mexican heroes, who has a place in history reserved for the greats—men and women who dedicated their lives to serve the nation,” the mayor said.

In his speech, Mayor Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana acknowledged the former president’s staunch defense of Mexico’s sovereignty, freedom, and his establishment of the Reform Laws, which, along with the Constitution of 1857, laid the foundation for the secular, independent, and sovereign state we have today.

“I am convinced that Juárez’s legacy should serve as a reference for those of us who aspire to work in public service, as he symbolizes austerity, integrity, courage, and a permanent commitment to the well-being of the people, which should be a guiding principle in our daily work,” he added.
