Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana launched the municipal 2025 Safe Vacation Initiative, a preventive action plan involving emergency response teams and other authorities to ensure the safety of local families and visitors.

The mayor announced that, in coordination with all three levels of government, surveillance and monitoring will be reinforced in high-traffic areas during the season—beaches, dams, swimming pools, parks, gastronomic zones, and other tourist spots—to safeguard residents and tourists alike.

Mayor Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana highlighted the ongoing coordination and communication among emergency response systems, which will improve incident response capabilities. Additionally, surveillance will be increased around schools.

During the initiative’s presentation, the mayor urged citizens to obey traffic signs and speed limits, wear seatbelts, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, supervise children during water activities, check water conditions to prevent accidents, and secure their homes before traveling.

“With these and other preventive measures, our goal is to achieve a safe and incident-free season. Public cooperation in following official recommendations is key to success,” the mayor said.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, José Alejandro Avilés Amezcua, stated that the General Police and Traffic Directorate designed a strategic operation focused on road safety, emergency response, and protecting people’s physical and property safety in urban and tourist areas.

The initiative will run from April 14 to April 20, 2025, deploying 964 agents across 14 districts and three regions, working together with Civil Protection, Firefighters, and the Command and Control Center.

Furthermore, Municipal Ombudswoman Teresita Balderas Beltrán announced her office’s “Safe Visitor” program, aimed at protecting domestic and international tourists by promoting secure, easy, and anonymous reporting. Three mobile units will patrol key tourist zones, among other measures.

José Luis Jiménez González, Director of Municipal Civil Protection, noted that their “Safe Vacation” campaign—under the slogan “Going Out? Check, Plan, and Care”—features Preventín, a Civil Protection mascot serving as the initiative’s spokesperson. Inspections of pools and recreational water sites will also ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Lastly, the head of the Firefighter Department, Rafael Carrillo Venegas, urged residents to use the 911 emergency line if needed. For those leaving their homes, he advised shutting off gas supplies and arranging for house supervision, among other precautions.
