Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana Launches New Oaxacan Liaison Office to Help Migrants

At the inauguration event, the mayor of Tijuana was accompanied by Governor Salomón Jara Cruz of Oaxaca.

Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, Mayor of the City of Tijuana, participated in the opening of the Liaison Office of the Oaxacan Migration Directorate. This new space, located in the city, aims to support Oaxacan migrants seeking opportunities in Tijuana.

During the event, which was attended by Governor Salomón Jara Cruz of Oaxaca, the mayor of Tijuana reaffirmed his commitment to facilitating access to essential services to improve the quality of life for migrant communities.

“We are fully prepared to work together with the government of Oaxaca to strengthen ongoing efforts. We will provide assistance and support migrants, especially our fellow citizens from the southern state,” stated Mayor Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana.

The governor of Oaxaca said that approximately 200,000 Oaxacans currently reside in Baja California, in search of better living conditions. For this reason, he highlighted the importance of this new space and thanked Mayor Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana for his support and willingness to collaborate.

Baja California’s Secretary General of the Government Alfredo Álvarez Cardenas, representing Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, spoke about the importance of this office issuing birth certificates, as they are a recognition of people’s identities.

A Strategy to Provide Comprehensive Support to Families from Oaxaca

The primary goal of the new office is to facilitate access to procedures and services from the state of Oaxaca by offering comprehensive support to families from Oaxaca, especially those belonging to indigenous communities.

Among the services the office will provide are the correction and processing of birth and death certificates, making these procedures more accessible.

During the ceremonial event, five symbolic birth certificates were given to individuals from several Oaxacan municipalities who now reside in Tijuana.

The Liaison Office of the Oaxacan Migration Directorate in Tijuana is located in Pasaje Foreign Club, Local 15, at Av. Constitución No.  720, in the Historic Downtown.

This inauguration was attended by the president of the Baja California Congress, Evelyn Sánchez Sánchez; the Secretary of Government of Oaxaca, José de Jesús Romero López; the Director of the Civil Registry of Oaxaca, Alfredo Santiago Chávez; as well as authorities from all three levels of government.
