Ismael Burgueño, Mayor of the City of Tijuana, highlighted the achievements made in security, social well-being, urban development, and the economy.

Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana recently spoke about the significant progress made by his administration on his first 100 days in office.

The Mayor highlighted the achievements obtained in key areas such as security, social well-being, urban development, and the economy. “The city of Tijuana has shown that we can achieve great things by working together,” he emphasized.

Modern Tijuana: Constant Enhancement of Urban Infrastructure

On infrastructure, one of the most significant achievements has been the progress made in pothole repair, public lighting, and the cleaning of the city’s desanders. To date, more than 52,000 square meters of roads have been restored and traffic has improved in several areas in Tijuana.

Plus, in an effort to optimize municipal services, garbage collection routes have expanded to include neighborhoods such as El Laurel and Lomas del Refugio, benefiting over 4,600 families.

Regarding technology, 136 traffic light controllers are being given maintenance and have been connected to the fiber optic network. This will allow automatized management to be carried out from the command center, improving mobility and security on roads.

The Atlas de Riesgo tool—used for natural prevention and to protect life and the city’s infrastructure—was also updated.

Pacific Tijuana: Security as a Priority

Thanks to the collaboration between federal and state forces, 2,222 arrests were made over robbery, drug trafficking, and homicide crimes.

One of the most significant initiatives in this area is “Escuadrón Violeta” (Violet Squad), a strategy designed to protect women and girls. This program has deployed 8 marked vehicle units and a team of 24 agents trained in human rights and gender perspective.

Additionally, the use of high-tech surveillance drones, preventive patrolling, and breathalyzer spots to prevent accidents has been implemented.

Social Well-Being and Addressing the Needs of the Community

The Burgueño administration has also intensely worked to listen to the voices of the community, including accepting proposals for the Municipal Development Plan.

Regarding social well-being, 10 community campaigns that benefited over 40,000 people have taken place. Economic aid and groceries were also given to more than 37,000 citizens.

The administration reopened the shelter for women who have been victims of domestic violence, providing them with a safe space for them and their children.

Furthermore, health campaigns to benefit more than 5,000 people, which include services such as mammograms, vaccines, and comprehensive medical treatments, have been implemented.

A comprehensive program to treat addictions, which has helped more than 200 people to rehabilitate and reenter into society, has also been put into action.

Young People’s Education in Tijuana

Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana’s administration has promoted the creation of the new Rosario Castellanos university in the Eastern Zone that aims to expand academic opportunities for young people in Tijuana.

In addition, 2,140 school kits and student aid of different educational levels were delivered, benefiting children and teenagers with the necessary resources so they can continue studying.

Economic Development Boost in Tijuana

Economic development has also been a priority in these first 100 days. The Burgueño administration delivered economic aid of 30,000 pesos to 462 local entrepreneurs so they can start their own businesses, fostering entrepreneurship and jobs in the city.

The Business Consultation Council was created and the Fast Lane system was optimized (allowing for streamlined crossings of merchandise and people for 24 hours on the weekends) to strengthen the business sector. This not only makes trade easier, but boosts tourism.

As part of the efforts to revitalize Downtown Tijuana, Calle Revolución was rebuilt as a pedestrian area, promoting gatherings and urban dynamism.

Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana’s first 100 days have been defined by significant progress in several areas that are improving the quality of life of all Tijuana natives. The 25th City Hall of Tijuana continues to work to build a more modern, safer, and more inclusive city.
