Influencer Claims There Are Better Options Than La Guerrerense in Ensenada

Despite being the home of the so-called “Best Tostada in the World,” it seems that “La Guerrerense” has become just a tourist spot.

Considered the “Most Famous Street Food Cart in the World,” influencer Arturo Lemmen visited “La Guerrerense” to try its iconic tostadas and confirm whether this establishment lives up to the hype, as it has earned numerous national and international gastronomic awards.

Lemmen traveled to Ensenada, Baja California, specifically to taste the restaurant’s specialty: Tostada Singapur, made with crab salad, scallops, shrimp, and accompanied by a peanut sauce. It is also known as the “Best Tostada in the World.”

Despite this establishment’s reputation, Lemmen stated that it did not live up to the title after trying the dish. He also noted that the business no longer had the warmth it once had, when the food preparation was done in front of customers. Now, the dishes are pre-made.

After that, he tried the sea urchin and clam tostada but said that it had too much sea urchin for his taste. In the end, he concluded that the food cart is no longer what it used to be, suggesting that winning so many awards might have taken away the love and care they once put into their service.

It should be noted that on his way to “La Guerrerense,” Lemmen saw that other nearby food carts had more customers, while the award-winning restaurant was completely empty.

“So, right now, this hasn’t been my favorite food cart. It’s a great cart, but I’m not sure if I’d come back. I came here very excited, but I’m not sure if I’m leaving just as excited,” the influencer said.

Anthony Bourdain and His Impact on “La Guerrerense”

Renowned American chef, writer, journalist, and producer Anthony Bourdain gave “La Guerrerense” the title of the “Most Famous Food Cart in the World.”

His impact on the business’s history is so significant that the restaurant still uses the title as its motto on a sign at the establishment. They also boast about having been visited by countless artists and celebrities, showcasing a small mural of photos as evidence.

However, both the YouTuber and locals agree that this establishment is no longer the same, saying that it has become a tourist spot, leaving locals behind and now surviving solely on nostalgia.

Arturo Lemmen shared that he was able to speak with the son of the restaurant’s founder, Sabina, who said that this is precisely what they are aiming for, as they are focused on “evolving.”

“If you’re watching this in English and want to visit a great food cart, come to ‘La Guerrerense.’ If you’re Mexican, there are better food carts out there,” concluded the influencer, who is also a chef.
