The government of Baja California and the National Commission of Sports (CONADE) signed a collaborative agreement to continue strengthening support of the region’s athletes as well as physical activities in communities and sports infrastructure, underscoring the importance of sports as an investment in society.

Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda highlighted the importance of sports as an investment in society and the need to continue to support the region’s athletes; agreements like the ones signed with CONADE are essential to achieving this goal.

She stressed that sports are crucial for peace, health, and inspiring youth. As such, the federal government’s willingness to collaborate in the development of sports facilities and early talent detection is extremely valuable.

“I want to reiterate to you Rommel and to President Claudia Sheinbaum that we are ready to continue promoting sports. We know the importance of Baja California regarding the 2028 Olympics, and this is going to put us in a very optimal stage to be an alternate venue of Los Angeles. We are getting ready for that,” the governor said.

The Director of CONADE, Rommel Pacheco Marrufo, highlighted the importance of physical activity to train new talent and for public health. This is why high-performance sports will be promoted in Baja California, as the state has become a national and international sports benchmark.

“Understand that through CONADE and the federal government, we will continue supporting sports infrastructure, international events, training, and everything necessary to generate better health, more peace, and make sports a transformative mechanism,” he said.

The CONADE director underscored that sports must be seen as an investment and not as an expense. People must collaborate from a social foundation by promoting physical activity and high performance to win more medals and create a positive impact in the society.

“It is much cheaper to invest in sports before health and security problems arise. Today, I’m pleased to know that the Baja California government and local deputies have this same vision, as they see sports as an investment,” the director said.

This signing of this agreement was attended by the head of the Institute of Sports and Physical Culture of Baja California, Laura Marmolejo, and Deputy and Congress President of Baja California, Evelyn Sánchez Sánchez.
